Dying Matters Week – Is there such a thing as a good death?

May 12, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

FREE

Is there such a thing as ‘a good death’ how can we work towards the best chance of experiencing this for ourselves and our loved ones? By ‘normalising’ death within our culture can this make us value our lives even better? Is there a developing role for compassionate end of life care within our hospital system? How would you ‘like’ to die?

Hazel Osborne is an end of life doula and celebrant and will be talking about the pioneering work evolving now in the UK, both through the end of life (EOL) doula movement and developing models of compassionate caring and awareness. Hazel trained as a doula with Sussex based ‘Living Well Dying Well’ an organisation working tirelessly towards the vision of a ‘good’ death. A death where we can be empowered and informed to make our own decisions whilst working in harmony with healthcare professionals. And ultimately towards a time where we can be comfortable with the fact that we will all die and that sometimes living a good quality life may be more important than how long it is.
