24 Hour Duathlon

Oct 25, 2019 @ 9:00 am - Oct 26, 2019 @ 9:00 am

In October Flintshire business man Steve Roberts will put his best foot forward to set a world record as he takes on a personal challenge to raise valuable funds for Hospice services.

businessman and Father of 5, Steve will be taking on the physical and mental challenge of a 24-hour Duathlon on Friday 25 October to raise valuable funds for the hospice, a cause close to his heart.

Steve is a keen athlete who has completed a number of challenges in the past including 2 Ironman events, multiple marathons, cycling events, various tri Athlons and the national 3 peaks to name but a few. The twist for this outdoor lover is that the challenge will be static on a treadmill and bike. For Steve, taking the challenge indoors and onto machine will add a new psychological dimension to this challenge on top of having to continuously be on the move for 24 hours, which he has never done before.   Having been a firm supporter of the hospice for a number of years Steve knows only too well the pressing need for essential funding for its ongoing upkeep.

Steve will be attempting to set a new world record for the longest Duathlon in 24 Hours. Adding the record attempt to the challenge has added an extra dimension to the challenge for the long standing supporter of St Kentigern.

Steve commented “St Kentigern is currently investing to ensure that the facilities at the Hospice are updated to meet the increasing needs of the local community. I’m very much looking forward to the challenge and hopeful that it will capture the public’s imagination and increase their awareness of the importance of the financial support that will be needed by St Kentigern Hospice well into the future”.

The Hospice is currently carrying out an extensive refurbishment and extension programme of the existing facilities together with the construction of a further four bedrooms for palliative care of patients with life limiting illnesses and a community café.

The challenge will be generously hosted at the Springfield Hotel, Pentre Halkyn from 9am on the Friday 25th October morning until 9am Saturday with the backing of Steve’s contacts and fellow colleagues in BNI Deeside and gym equipment sponsored by ServiceSport UK.

‘We are thrilled by this remarkable support from Steve and are looking forward to helping him achieve this challenge. It will be tough on his body, and we are very grateful of his heart warming and courageous effort to aid the hospice, we are all behind him’   Laura Parry, Fundraising Manager, St Kentigern Hospice

Monies will be raised through donations, sponsorship and by pledging a donation to run/cycle for an hour alongside Steve and be part of this momentous fundraising effort. If local businesses or individuals would like to support, both Steve and the hospice team would be very appreciative.
