Dying Matters Awareness Week

Talking about death and dying is something many of us avoid. It can feel uncomfortable, emotional, or even overwhelming. But these conversations are some of the most important we can have. When we open up, ask questions, and share our wishes, we make things clearer and easier for the people around us—and for ourselves.

That’s what Dying Matters Awareness Week 4-10th May is all about: encouraging honest, supportive conversations that help break down stigma and fear. Because when the time comes, having already talked things through can bring comfort, clarity, and peace of mind.

This week, we’re inviting our community to come together, reflect, and start those conversations in a safe and welcoming space.

A Week of Meaningful Events

We’ve planned a series of thoughtful, supportive events designed to help you explore these topics at your own pace:

📅 Tuesday 5th May – Advance Care Planning Day
This day offers a gentle introduction to thinking about the future. Whether you’re planning ahead for yourself or supporting someone else, you’ll find guidance, ideas, and space for meaningful conversation. Our team will be on hand throughout the day, including social worker Lisa, who will be offering support with memory capturing—helping preserve stories, moments, and memories that matter most.

📅 Wednesday 6th May – Professional day
We are hosting a dedicated professional day, bringing together healthcare professionals and palliative care district nurses to share their expertise, strengthen collaboration, and support compassionate end-of-life care.

📅 Friday 8th May – Multi Agency Day
Join us for relaxed, informal conversations with a range of professionals who are here to support you. This is a great opportunity to learn about local services, ask questions, and discover what help is available—whether now or in the future. It’s all about making support more accessible and less daunting.
